Scottish Highland regiments played a distinguished role in the Normandy campaign of June–August 1944. Units including the 51st Highland Division landed in Normandy and fought through the bocage country and beyond. The regimental piper was a proud tradition, with pipers leading troops into battle — a practice that continued in WWII despite the obvious danger. Pipe Major Bill Millin famously piped commandos ashore on Sword Beach on D-Day, 6 June 1944, an act of extraordinary courage. This figure set captures that heritage, depicting a piper and accompanying infantry in combat dress of the period.
