Soviet NKL-26 Armoured Aerosan
The NKL-26 was an armoured aerosan used by the Soviet Union during World War II. It was based on the earlier NKL-6 and was made of plywood with a ten-millimetre armor plate on the front only. The vehicle was armed with a 7.62mm DT machine gun in a ring mount and powered by an M-11G aircraft engine.
Each NKL-26 was operated by two crewmen, and they were organized into battalions of 30 NKL-16s with a transport company of NKL-16s. The NKL-26 was used in conjunction with ski infantry battalions and could carry ski troops on its skis or tow them behind. The vehicle was designed for a crew of two, the commander of the machine and the shooter in combat operations. The NKL-26 was successful in its role, continuing to serve after the war.
