Operating anti-tank guns, tank destroyers, and Panzerfausts, Panzerjäger troops were among the most intensely engaged infantry of the war. By the Eastern Front fighting of 1944, German Panzerjäger soldiers had developed highly effective close-combat tank-hunting tactics, using Panzerfausts and Hafthohlladung magnetic mines to ambush Soviet armor in defensive actions from Ukraine to the Vistula.
