Historical Background:

The Hermann Göring Division was one of the Luftwaffe's elite ground combat formations, originally raised as an air force field division but developed into a full panzer division by 1943. The HG Division fought with distinction in the defense of Sicily in 1943 and was subsequently transferred to Italy, where it played a critical role in the bitter defensive battles around Anzio and Cassino in early 1944. The Anzio landings in January 1944 (Operation Shingle) caught the Germans by surprise, but Field Marshal Kesselring quickly assembled forces — including the HG Division — to contain the Allied beachhead. For months, fierce fighting raged around the Anzio perimeter as the HG Division helped pin down Allied forces in some of the war's most brutal attritional combat. Dragon's figure set captures these Luftwaffe ground troops in their distinctive field dress and equipment.
