The Dragon Models 1/35 Sd.Kfz.166 Stu.Pz.IV Brummbär — Mid Production w/Zimmerit (6500) is a highly detailed Smart Kit of the mid-production variant of the formidable German heavy assault gun. The Brummbär ("Grizzly Bear" — an unofficial name) mounted a short-barrelled 15cm StuH 43 L/12 howitzer in a heavily armored superstructure on the Panzer IV chassis, purpose-built to demolish fortifications and provide overwhelming close support in urban and heavily fortified terrain.

The Brummbär was developed following brutal experience in Stalingrad and other urban battles, where standard armor proved vulnerable to close-range infantry attack and lacked the firepower to quickly reduce fortified buildings. The first sixty vehicles were rushed to the Eastern Front in time for the Battle of Kursk in July 1943. Mid-production vehicles, built from late 1943, introduced a revised commander's cupola with periscopes replacing the original vision ports, and other improvements. Zimmerit anti-magnetic paste was factory applied to German armor between late 1943 and September 1944, giving these vehicles their characteristic textured surface.

Key Features:

  • 1/35 scale injection-molded Smart Kit
  • Factory-applied Zimmerit anti-magnetic paste molded with accurate texture directly onto hull and superstructure
  • Mid-production specific features including revised commander's cupola with periscope vision
  • Photo-etched brass parts for Schürzen mounting hardware and fine detail components
  • Magic Track individual link tracks for the Panzer IV running gear
  • Multiple Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS marking options

The factory-molded Zimmerit is one of the most significant features of this kit — reproducing the paste's characteristic roller-applied pattern in accurate scale texture eliminates hours of scratch-applied work and delivers a result that is difficult to surpass.

Ideal For:

  • German assault gun and Sturmpanzer IV enthusiasts
  • Kursk, Italy, Normandy, and Eastern Front 1944 diorama builders
  • Modelers who want authentic factory-applied Zimmerit without the scratch work

The Dragon Brummbär Mid Production kit is the definitive 1/35 representation of the Zimmerit-coated Sturmpanzer, delivering the intimidating presence of this urban warfare specialist in outstanding detail.
