The Dragon 1/35 Wittmann’s Last Tiger I Late Production (6800) recreates one of the most famous—and most debated—Tiger tanks of WWII. This kit depicts Tiger 007, the late‑production Tiger I commanded by SS‑Hauptsturmführer Michael Wittmann, one of the most well‑known German tank commanders of the war.

Dragon’s kit captures the exact configuration of Wittmann’s Tiger during its final engagement near Saint‑Aignan‑de‑Cramesnil on August 8, 1944, during the Normandy campaign. With molded Zimmerit, late‑production features, and Dragon’s signature high‑detail engineering, this kit is ideal for modelers seeking historical accuracy and premium build quality.

Historical Background

Michael Wittmann (22 April 1914 – 8 August 1944) was a German Waffen-SS tank commander during the Second World War. He is known for his ambush of elements of the British 7th Armored Division during the Battle of Villers-Bocage on 13 June 1944. While in command of a Tiger I tank, Wittmann destroyed up to 14 tanks, 15 personnel carriers and two anti-tank guns within 15 minutes before the loss of his own tank. Wittmann became a cult figure after the war thanks to his accomplishments as a "panzer ace" (a highly decorated tank commander), part of the portrayal of the Waffen-SS in popular culture. Historians have mixed opinions about his tactical performance in battle. He is credited with destroying 135 to 138 enemy tanks.

Wittmann’s final battle has become one of the most studied tank engagements of WWII.

Key historical notes:

  • Tiger 007 was a late‑production Tiger I, featuring:

    • Steel road wheels

    • Cast commander’s cupola

    • Zimmerit anti‑magnetic coating

    • Late‑war exhaust and turret fittings

  • On August 8, 1944, Wittmann’s unit counterattacked British and Canadian forces south of Caen. His Tiger was destroyed during the engagement, with multiple theories about the cause (including British Firefly, Typhoon aircraft, and Canadian Shermans). Tiger 007 remains one of the most photographed and documented late‑production Tigers. The tank’s distinctive tactical markings and field‑applied camouflage make it a favorite subject for modelers

This kit allows builders to recreate one of the most iconic tanks of the Normandy campaign with exceptional accuracy.
